The 3 is an initiative aimed at elevating and empowering 3 influences in the life of the next generation—parents, mentors, and prayer warriors. It is drawn from Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT), “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” At Trinity Church, we are endeavoring to weave a triple-braided cord of spiritual influence into the life of every child and student. Statistics show that a staggering number of high school seniors walk away from church and the Christian faith after high school. The 3 is part of our effort to reverse that trend.

We have a plan called the Trinity Family Blueprint that empowers parents to be their child’s spiritual hero. You can find those resources
here. We believe the church is called to serve as partners with parents in discipling the next generation. They don’t need us to tell them what they should do, they need us to give them the tools to do it and cheer them on.

We have reconceived our children’s and student volunteer teams as a team of mentors. We aim to make sure every child has an adult (other than a parent) in their life to be a spiritual mentor, pointing them to Jesus. We use these 4 Mindsets of a Mentor when we work with the next generation.

Every family in our congregation who wants one is paired with someone else in the church who commits to praying regularly for the family – parents and children. Prayer warriors reach out regularly to parents so they can know how to best pray. This is also a positive way to foster cross-generational engagement.

The documents on this page are tools for facilitating connection and communication between the 3 influences—parents, mentors, and prayer warriors. Whenever possible we encourage face to face connection, so we host connection events where parents and prayer warriors can meet and interact.
